This hardscape project in Kirkwood, MO, is one of my all time favorite Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. design and installations. We designed this project in conjunction with a landscape design architect. The combination of our visions produced one of my top ten favorite hardscape projects of all time for this homeowner.  

When I met this homeowner in Town & Country, she had some very good ideas about what she wanted to do with her hardscape project.  The combination of her ideas and our landscape design experience and vision produced this outstanding hardscape masterpiece.

Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. designed and built this small terraced retaining wall in Festus, MO. We do retaining walls of every shape, size, and application. This wall is more of a landscape retaining wall than most of our retaining walls that tend to be larger and more complex, but I am glad the homeowners chose us over the landscape contractors, who most certainly bid against us for this project.

This large, structural, terraced retaining wall in Sunset Hills, MO, was designed and installed by us at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. The engineering on this 20’ tall retaining wall was done by CMV Engineering. The landscaping was done by a professional landscaper that the homeowners hired. What a great idea! These homeowners had a professional retaining wall company to design and build the structural retaining wall and a professional landscape company to come in and design and install the landscape. I wish more people realized there is a big difference. We replaced an old landscape tie wall with this great looking Rockwood Retaining Wall stone. Our design for this retaining wall was simple but called for leaving a swale in place behind the old landscape tie wall to allow for water to be channeled to the end of this terraced retaining wall. I really like what the landscape contractor did with their landscape design and installation.

This hardscape, designed and installed by Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. in Oakville, MO, is also included in my top ten Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. design and installations of all time. The homeowners wanted to expand their yard by taking out an old landscape tie wall and replace it with this Rockwood Colonial Stone retaining wall. I want to thank these homeowners for giving us the privilege to put our unmatched experience and quality hardscape installation to work for them. This terraced retaining wall has a combined height of over 12’. CMV Engineering engineered this wall for us and Lemay Concrete Block manufactured this high quality Rockwood Colonial Stone. The homeowners hired a landscape contractor to take care of all the landscaping in the retaining wall terrace.

This design works very well because almost all the guests who come to this house park on the top side of this terraced Rockwood retaining wall and do not see the air conditioner units that are cunningly hidden by the hardscape.

We took out some old landscape tie walls and replaced them with these great looking Rockwood Colonial Stone retaining walls. We do the highest quality hardscape installation with our experienced professional retaining wall and paver experts at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. The homeowner hired a landscape contractor to come in after us to design and install the landscaping that I think compliments our retaining wall masterpiece very well.

We were recommended to this homeowner by a customer we were working for at the time and after these homeowners saw all our retaining wall and paver pictures, they decided we were the retaining wall contractor for their home improvement project. While this terraced retaining wall installation is not very large, it did present several challenges. The homeowners had a very nice wood deck built right up to the existing landscape tie wall we had to take out. Correct, we took out a landscape tie wall without even damaging the wood deck!  Another interesting challenge was the waterfall they had just had a landscape contractor install a year or so before. We came in and a major stipulation for us being picked to replace the failing landscape tie wall was that we could take down the existing tie wall and build the new Rockwood Retaining Wall without damaging the waterfall. These homeowners in South St. Louis, MO, first heard about Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. when we were referred by one of our past customers. This very large terraced Rockwood Retaining Wall, with one of my all time favorite set of steps, was designed and installed by us at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. The original design concept called for the steps to lead down to a large pool area and the terraces to be filled with great landscaping, but the homeowners have put the swimming pool on hold for now and so they have no need for the landscape contractor services in the terraces. I cannot wait until the pool contractor gets to install the pool and the landscape contractor gets to do what they do. The retaining wall pictures we have then will be even more impressive.

This 6” straight face Rockwood block looks great and the landscape contractor they hired to come in after us did a very good job at complimenting our hardscape vision. The other contractors we competed against for this project were mainly landscape contractors—spending 90% of their time landscaping and doing a retaining wall every now and then. This retaining wall had many challenges.  For example, the problem of how to take out the existing tie wall holding up the driveway without getting anything in the swimming pool, and to do so without damaging the pool deck in any way.  Retaining wall projects like this project need to have a well qualified, very experienced retaining wall contractor: a contractor that comes with a plan in mind for the project, a great retaining wall design, and the experienced retaining wall craftsmen to execute that plan flawlessly. One mistake on a retaining wall project like this could lead to disaster. Imagine, if you would, what it could have looked like if this driveway ended up in the swimming pool.  If they would have hired the wrong contractor this could very well have happened-- the driveway could really have ended up in the swimming pool. As you can see, everything turned out great. The terraced retaining wall design allowed the landscape contractor to come in after us and break up the look of this large retaining wall with some great landscaping.

This was another tough, logistical, poolside retaining wall project that required a well trained, experienced retaining wall contractor to come up with the retaining wall design and installation. If these homeowners would have picked a less qualified contractor whose main focus was something other than large retaining walls, the consequences could have been very bad for them.  All contractors are not equal! Do not assume because someone says they do retaining walls, they know what they are doing on a job of this magnitude. Please, for your own sake, do your homework before you hire the contractor-- that is the time to find out who they are, and not after you have signed with them and it is too late. I tell people all the time there are lots of great sales people out there who can sell anything, but I only know a few really good retaining wall contractors.

These small terraced retaining walls in South Saint Louis County were designed and installed by Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. We took out an old stone wall here and replaced it with this great looking Rockwood Retaining Wall split faced 6” stone. The homeowners like it a lot and have recommended us to others over the years.

Behind this pool area and under the wood deck, a Rockwood Retaining Wall 8” Classic natural color terraced wall installed by Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. holds back the hill and holds up this nice deck. To do this installation we had to first take out the existing landscape tie wall that held up the deck and held back the hill. We then had to take out the existing landscape ties without damaging the deck.  How did we do it you ask? I cannot tell you all our retaining wall installation secrets! I can, however, tell you we did it, it looks great, and the homeowner was very pleased.
