Hardscape Photo Album 1

This set of retaining walls and pavers in Mehlville, MO, designed and built by Agape Retaining Walls has remained one of my favorite hardscape design and installation over the years. The 8" Rockwood goldenrod retaining wall block was the perfect stone for the homeowner's taste, and the Romanstone pavers add a very attractive and reliable patio area to entertain guests. Designed to allow easy access for the homeowner to take care of her landscaping above the first terrace, Rockwood retaining wall steps were installed through both terraces to provide access to the extensive landscaping above the top terrace. What an honor it was to be picked as the retaining wall and paver contractor for this project that replaced some very old tie walls with this beautiful hardscape paradise.

Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. built these retaining walls in Kirkwood, MO using a Versa-lok Mosaic stone. This stone is a high-end, three piece retaining wall system that speaks for itself! Wow, is this nice or what?! I love the design, the engineering, and the craftmanship of these retaining walls. They are definitely some of my all time favorite hardscapes. Notice the lights in the walls, the bullnose pavers on the steps, the Romanstone Holland pavers used for the patio area and the walkpaths, the flow of the walls with the steps, and the way that the landscape and hardscape compliment one another. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot the Versa-lok modular block mailbox built in to the end of the retaining wall. What a fun hardscape project this was, and I am so thankful that Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. had the privilege to build this hardscape masterpiece for this homeowner.

Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. designed and built this hardscape masterpiece in Oakville, MO early in 2008, replacing an old tie retaining wall. The homeowners really liked the look of this Rockwood 6" taupe/black blend Colonial stone retaining wall as well as this 6" taupe/black blend Rockwood Stonehedge seat wall around the Belgard Dublin Collection patio area.

This double terraced Rockwood 8" straight face taupe retaining wall in Augusta, MO has a total height of 15' and a total length of approximately 130 l.f. My favorite design feature of this retaining wall project is the way the first terrace has 4' height and the second terrace has an 11' height leaving most of this very large wall hidden behind the landscaping. This was an important aesthetic feature for the homeowner, who feared looking out the window of his study at a concrete retaining wall monolith. At Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. we take great pride in our ability to custom design retaining walls and interlocking concrete pavers for our customer's satisfaction.

These homeowners in Ballwin, MO made a very wise landscaping decision in choosing Rockwood Colonial stone. The Rockwood Colonial is a great looking modular block with a unique appearance. In my opinion, this retaining wall block gives you the best looking hardscape for your money. In quality, it is a top of the line stone designed to look like a more expensive multi-piece retaining wall system, when in reality it is a single block--saving you money in both labor and material cost. If you are looking for a top quality retaining wall system that will not break your landscape budget, Rockwood Colonial is the stone for you.

This Rockwood 8" three-way-split face goldenrod retaining wall in Oakville, MO was a challenge on many levels. The old tie retaining wall was failing, and as a result this very large deck was starting to fall away from the home. We had to provide structural support for the deck and redo all of its main concrete piers in conjunction with building this retaining wall. To add to this, the homeowners wanted their retaining wall to be built leaving all the trees in place. The end result is this very nice looking Rockwood retaining wall weaving in and out of trees and structurally securing their deck for many decades to come.

These homeowners in Oakville, MO picked this great looking Versa-lok Mosaic Charcoal weathered stone retaining wall system to provide a very unique old world retaining wall look. The Versa-lok Mosaic stone is a top of the line multipiece retaining wall system that many people find to be unmatched in its elegant old world style.

These Versa-lok Mosaic weathered bethany ledge retaining walls compliment the brickwork on this home very nicely. The Versa-lok Mosaic retaining wall system is much pricier than most other modular block retaining walls due to both higher material cost and increased labor in the installation of these multipiece panel retaining walls; but for the homeowner who wants this look and is willing to pay extra this block is hard to beat.

This structural retaining wall in Wildwood, MO, holding up a driveway, was constructed using a Rockwood 8" straight face natural stone with modular block steps leading down to a paverstone patio area built with Belgard pavers from the Dublin Collection. This retaining wall design provides structural integrity with pleasing aesthetics.

This retaining wall with modular block steps in St. Peters, MO was built using a Rockwood Colonial stone. The homeowners chose to use this stone for its unique multi-piece look. This stone has the look of a multi-piece system, but in actuality it is a one stone modular block system that saves money on both the cost of the product and the labor to install it over more expensive multi-piece retaining wall systems.

These Rockwood 6" three-way-split face natural color stones were selected by the President of the Homeowner's Association for a condominium complex in St. Peters, MO to replace old railroad tie walls.

Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. built this 34' tall Rockwood 8" straight faced natural modular block retaining wall in Jefferson County, MO. We used three terraces, about 2,500 tons of rock, and a tremendous amount of geo grid to make sure this very tall retaining wall will stand strong, holding back the hillside, for many generations.

This Rockwood 8" straight face taupe structural retaining wall in Eureka, MO was designed to provide plenty of level backyard space as cost efficiently as possible for the homeowners and their children to spend family time. The homeowners had us install these modular block Rockwood retaining wall steps to provide access to an area they hoped for us to level with more retaining walls in the future.

This Rockwood 8" straight face taupe retaining wall was the beginning of big things for us in this south St. Louis county subdivision. We at Agape Retaining Walls had the privilege of not only installing these beautiful double terraced retaining walls for this homeowner, but we were also chosen to build retaining walls by seven other homeowners in the same subdivision; five of them in a row on the same street--with each homeowner referring us to the next.

This structural Rockwood 8" straight face natural retaining wall in Oakville, MO is very much an improvement over the old failing railroad tie wall that we replaced. This wall is approximately 250 l.f. with a maximum height of 12' and was engineered to retain the parking lot above it. It was very gratifying to hear from this business owner because many years before, I had built a 20' tall retaining wall holding a very large swimming pool behind his house. When I met with him, he let me know the Rockwood retaining wall I built at his house in Sunset Hills still looked great and that he was not even considering getting a bid from another retaining wall contractor, because he would not think of having someone else build a structural retaining wall this size for him.

These Rockwood 8" three-way-split face goldenrod retaining walls, built in Town and Country, MO to replace old railroad tie walls, speak for themselves. The homeowners were very pleased with the way the walls look and so are we.

There are retaining walls and then there are RETAINING WALLS! Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. designed and built these water application retaining walls in Valley Park, MO, putting our experience and engineering working over-time. Water application retaining walls should only be done by knowledgeable well-trained retaining wall contractors in conjunction with a veteran retaining wall engineer. We are blessed enough to be both knowledgeable and have a vast amount of experience in such projects as well as having worked with the same engineer for nearly ten years. One of our mottos is "Simply the Best" and I think these walls put that motto out front for everyone to see and judge for themselves. In the construction of these retaining walls, we used a Rockwood 8" classic stone. Three of these walls are goldenrod and two of these walls are natural color. Agape Retaining Walls was referred to one of these homeowners by Lemay Concrete Block (the local manufacturer of Rockwood retaining wall systems) as a preferred contractor. Once again, during our construction of this first wall, we were referred by that homeowner and then to others by the referred homeowners. When all was said and done, we ended up doing five out of six retaining walls constructed while the lake was lowered. (The sixth can be viewed in our Wall Disasters gallery.)

We at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. had the privilege to build these Rockwood classic poolside retaining walls with paverstone steps in Chesterfield, MO. Retaining walls holding up a driveway next to an in-ground swimming pool needed special consideration in both retaining wall engineering and aesthetics. In engineering, you need to be sure the retaining wall is structurally solid and capable to bear the weight and pressure of the driveway for as many decades as needed. In aesthetics, you want to make sure the wall is designed in a way that is pleasing to those viewing it from the pool area. With these walls, the terraces allow for landscaping to break up the otherwise imposing monolith necessary to properly retain the driveway area. The use of Romanstone Holland pavers in construction of the steps also added a very nice contrasting look--softening the feel of the overall retaining wall project. One other thing that had to be considered on such a large poolside retaining wall is the limited access during construction. Because there is no access to the front of the wall, all excavation and installation must be done from behind the wall. We also have to be very cautious not to damage the pool, the deck, the pumps, the electric, the lights, or any utilities going into the house. I am happy to say all these considerations have been accomplished on this project, and with the Agape Retaining Wall, Inc. 10 guarantee, these homeowners will be secure for decades against having to replace their walls again.

With some retaining walls, we get to use our hardscape design creativity more than others. We at Agape Retaining Walls certainly were able to use our creativity in the design and building of these poolside retaining walls and paver steps in Oakville, MO. Using a Rockwood 6" straight face classic block, with the steps complimented by charcoal Romanstone Holland pavers, this combination is perfect to provide the structural needs and aesthetic beauty needed for a poolside retaining wall like this. We have done a lot of steps over the years, but the way these steps curve, merge, and flow together, from the top of the yard down to the pool area, make this retaining wall design and craftmanship one of my all time favorites.

Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. built and designed these Rockwood retaining wall 6" taupe three-way-split double terraced walls in Augusta, MO. When I first came out to the site all I could see of this historic 1860 wine cellar were the wooden doors with a little bit of stone. Everything was overgrown with trees and brush. (View Before Photo) The homeowners wanted us to create an open area to entertain family and friends in this unique setting. It was our privilege to design and build this hardscape masterpiece.
