Retaining Wall Steps Album

This set of concrete block retaining wall steps, capped with bull nose pavers, in Kirkwood, Mo, was installed by Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. We used the Versa-Lok untumbled standard block. The set of walls coming into the steps are a Versa-Lok Mosaic untumbled block and have Kerr Lighting built into the wall to help light the steps. The Kerr lighting is reasonable in price for outdoor lighting and is installed relatively easily. All the hardscape installation on this project including the Kerr lighting was done by Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. with the landscaping and asphalt done by other contractors.

This Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. design and installation water application Rockwood Retaining Wall in Valley Park, MO, was crowned with this great looking set of modular block concrete steps going down to the lake. The homeowners wanted us to install these great looking Rockwood Retaining Wall steps so that they could have easy access in and out of the lake from their paddle boat. These lakeside retaining wall steps were constructed using a Rockwood 8” 3-way split face goldenrod block along with a Rockwood goldenrod straight 4” cap. This water application wall was engineered by Carl Vogt with CMV Engineering, who is in my opinion the best retaining wall engineer in St. Louis, MO.  CMV has engineered every major retaining wall for Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. since we were incorporated in February of 2002. The tallest wall I have ever built with CMV Engineering was 35’ tall and it still looks great holding up the parking lot at Gravois Bluffs all these years later. These Rockwood steps look great and stand as a testimony of the skill and craftsmanship of the men at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc.  If you are looking for a company that specializes in retaining wall and interlocking paver installation, there is no one who does better hardscape design and installation than Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. Take your time and take a good, long look at our website.  We have nearly 2,000 pictures of retaining walls and paver installation, along with a hardscape blog on how to pick a retaining wall contractor, and reviews and references that go on forever. Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. has an A+ rating with the BBB along with membership and training in the NCMA and ICPI organizations, both of which are on the cutting edge of the hardscape industry.  If you would like to receive your free custom hardscape consultation and free estimate call or email us today and you will soon see for yourself that Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. is “Simply The Best” hardscape contractor to be found anywhere in the St. Louis area.

These homeowners in south St. Louis County, Missouri, chose Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. as their retaining wall contractor of choice over landscape contractors to take care of the retaining wall design, engineering, and installation. This large Rockwood Retaining Wall 6” Classic three-way split faced stone holding up the back patio area is structural in nature and also looks great. These Rockwood Retaining Wall steps provide access from the back patio area down to a future pool area. Click on the pictures to enlarge and look at the craftsmanship involved in the installation of these flared steps. The modular block Rockwood Retaining Wall steps are hand crafted. Each step needs to be cut in with a diamond blade saw, laser toned, leveled, and glued with special retaining wall adhesive. Structural retaining walls like this wall holding up the backyard patio area, need to be engineered with a lot of geo-grid and compacted backfill rock. Sonotubes were installed behind the retaining wall and retaining wall steps to provide easy installation for the fence contractor who came in later to install the aluminum fence above the concrete block steps and the gate between the retaining wall block columns.

After looking at all our retaining wall and patio paver pictures online, this homeowner in Town & Country, Missouri, chose us at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. as her hardscape contractor of choice to take care of the retaining wall and patio paver design, engineering, and installation. These concrete retaining wall steps are somewhat unique in their design. They are squared off with one side open and landscape stepping stones on top of decorative rock for the landing pads. This design helped keep the cost of these retaining wall steps down and at the same time gave the homeowner a great looking set of steps to provide access from the driveway to the patio.  At Agape Retaining Walls we could write a book on the how-to of hardscape design and installation. I really believe that we do the best hardscape design with the highest quality hardscape installation in St. Louis.

Our hardscape design incorporated these great looking Rockwood Retaining Wall blocks manufactured here in St. Louis, Missouri, by Lemay Concrete Block and these Romanstone Holland pavers manufactured here in St. Louis by Kirchner Block and Brick. I very much like the way we designed these steps and landing areas going through the iron gate from the driveway to the swimming pool. This Rockwood Retaining Wall Colonial stone masterpiece in Sunset Hills, Missouri, was designed and installed by the hardscape craftsmen at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. The Belgard Dublin Collection pavers are a great improvement over the old decorative concrete patio they replaced. The steps look great and though these Rockwood block concrete  steps are cornered at a right angle off the retaining walls and therefore more simple to install than many of our modular block concrete step designs, they still take extra time to craft them just right. The homeowners were very happy about their home improvements and I am blessed to have had the privilege to design and install yet one more hardscape masterpiece. Click on the retaining wall pictures to enlarge and take a good look at the quality of work of Agape Retaining Walls, Inc.

These Rockwood Retaining Wall steps in combination with these Romanstone Holland pavers look great. This modular block concrete retaining wall steps design is one of my all time favorites. When we were bidding this retaining wall project our design ideas were unique compared to the landscape contractors we bid against, especially how we designed the steps, and the homeowners rewarded us for thinking outside the box by allowing us to have the privilege to install this beautiful hardscape.  I want to make sure I give credit to Lemay Concrete Block for their high quality retaining wall blocks and CMV Engineering for their great retaining wall engineering here in St. Louis.

These homeowners in south St. Louis County picked Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. as their hardscape contractor of choice. We installed these great looking poolside Rockwood Retaining Walls with this great looking set of steps going down from the home to the pool area. The Rockwood Retaining Walls and these Holland pavers were manufactured here in St. Louis by Lemay Concrete Block. The retaining wall engineering was done by CMV Engineering and of course, the retaining wall design and installation was done by us at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc.

This very small landscape retaining wall and block design and installation in South St. Louis County are one of my favorite small installations that we at ARW have done. I think that I just like the look and the simplicity, but the real reason I like this one so much is the appreciation the customers expressed over the finish product and for our company.

This modular block retaining wall step installation in Oakville was fun.  If you notice, the spaces between the step treads are filled with decorative rock.  The steps are done in the Rockwood Retaining Wall block.

This set of Rockwood Retaining Walls and steps in St. Louis were designed and installed by Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. This is the Rockwood 8” Classic stone and it looks great to me. I am so thankful for all the opportunities I get in my business to help people.  Our designs look great, are totally functional and increase the value of the homes we get to work at. These homeowners in Oakville, Missouri, chose Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. over several other retaining wall and landscape contractors from here in St. Louis.  These Rockwood goldenrod Classic steps and walls look great. We replaced an old tie wall with no steps on this side of the wall. I have been back to this job on several occasions and every time I see this hardscape it just looks better.

This set of Rockwood steps and retaining walls in Chesterfield, Missouri, are unique in their design in that the one side of the steps is built into the retaining wall and the other side is left open.  I like the look and for this retaining wall design it was needed, but we have not had the opportunity to do another one like this since.  One thing we love at ARW is that no two jobs are the exact same. Every hardscape design and installation is unique. The topography is different and the homeowner’s vision and needs are more than not likely to be different; not to mention logistics, aesthetics, and functional considerations. Every job is different and there is no substitution for hands-on experience. We at ARW have designed and installed hundreds of thousands of s.f. of hardscape and every working day we add to those numbers. Unlike a lot of landscape contractors who do many things, we at ARW are installing retaining walls and pavers everyday—which means, we do not install landscape plants and bushes and we will not mow your lawn or clean your gutters. Each and every day we are practicing the art of hardscape installation and design and all the practice could work out perfect for you if you choose us for your project.

These homeowners in Town & Country, Missouri, chose us at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. to take care of their retaining wall design, engineering, and installation. This set of Rockwood steps are the only set of retaining wall steps on this much larger hardscape project, including walls around a poolscape and extensive retaining walls around the front of this beautiful new home. I like our nice hardscape design here-- notice how the flowerbeds are built into the side of the retaining walls steps. I am very thankful for the opportunity to do this job for this nice couple and their family. I hope they will enjoy this Agape Masterpiece for many years.

These homeowners in Chesterfield, MO, chose Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. as their hardscape contractor of choice. This set of Rockwood Retaining Wall modular block steps is a very simple retaining wall step design and installation. Whether your hardscape project has a simple design or a complex design, a professional hardscape installation by the skilled hardscape craftsmen at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. will leave you very happy and certain that you picked the best and passed on the rest.  Click on these retaining wall step pictures to enlarge them so you can examine for yourself our superior hardscape installation.

This residential hardscape designed and installed by us at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. is one of my favorite residential hardscape projects. These homeowners in Sunset Hills, Missouri, were smart enough to choose ARW as their hardscape contractor of choice. The reason they told us that they chose us over the landscape contractors who also bid this retaining wall and paver installation was that they really appreciated our hardscape design ideas and the obvious experience and knowledge of retaining walls and pavers we would bring to their project. The homeowners told us that the other landscape companies had no real solutions to their hardscape problems. We used the Versa-Lok Mosaic weathered stone on this project, the Versa-Lok standard weathered block, and Versa-Lok weathered cap for the step installation. Another thing to notice about this Versa-Lok Retaining Wall step design and installation is how we built the landscape planter beds into the steps on the bottom set of steps and how we built the steps into the landscape terraces on the upper steps.

This Rockwood Retaining Wall and Belgard paver hardscape installation in Sunset Hills, Missouri, looks great and is very functional. We at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. were called in to bid this hardscape project when the homeowners put on a new home addition and found themselves in need of a new backyard patio area. The way the top set of steps are shaped in a half moon and built right up to the door frame of the home sets this step installation apart from many others we have done. When retaining wall steps like these are installed above the framing on the home it is very important to use a material such as DuPont’s Tyvek house wrap behind the steps or block wall to prevent water from doing damage to wood frame of the  home. We installed Tyvek behind these retaining wall steps to guarantee the homeowners never have problems with water against their wood frame. The lower steps are right angled off the Rockwood Colonial Stone retaining walls. Both sets of steps are capped with the Rockwood Retaining Wall straight cap and are anchored down using the Rockwood Retaining Wall adhesive. Click on the retaining wall step pictures to enlarge them and allow you to examine the Agape Retaining Wall craftsmanship.

These homeowners in Ballwin, Missouri, chose us at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. as their retaining wall contractor of choice. We designed and installed these great looking Rockwood goldenrod terraced retaining walls with modular concrete block steps back in 2003. The new landscape walls expanded the usable space on the low section of yard and these great looking concrete modular block steps provide access to the upper yard area.

These homeowners in Belleville, Illinois, hired us at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. to replace their existing railroad tie wall with these great looking Rockwood Retaining Walls. They also wanted us to install these steps going from the concrete sidewalk all the way up to the front porch of their home. They wanted these steps straight up the hill and inside their hardscape budget. Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. delivered on all accounts with this very unique concrete block step and retaining wall combination. There are 25 of these Rockwood Retaining Wall steps going up this hill.

These Rockwood Retaining Wall eight inch split face stones look great with these terraced concrete block steps. When designing and installing steps into a split face block wall like this one you need to account for the retaining wall block matching up to the concrete block step. If you try to carry the split face retaining wall block into the step it will create an unattractive triangle shaped hole that most people will not like if they notice it. To avoid this, the steps need to be a straight face block to provide a flatter surface to match up to the new concrete block steps. The straight face block will match very nicely and the end result will be a great looking retaining wall with well designed and hand crafted modular block concrete steps. We at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. designed and installed this great looking landscape terraced retaining wall with concrete block steps in 2009.

This Rockwood Retaining Wall eight inch taupe straight face block wall and steps in Jefferson County, Missouri, were designed and installed by Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. These steps are classic Agape design the way they radius into the wall on each end.  It was a privilege to have the honor to do this landscape retaining wall project for this couple who had one son serving the United States of America in Iraq and another son stationed on the DMZ in South Korea. We designed and installed these two sets of steps as a gift to this couple; one for each son who was serving our great nation. Thank you once again for allowing us the privilege to design and install the hardscape at your home.

This set of retaining walls and right angled concrete block steps were designed and installed by Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. for these homeowners in Jefferson County, Missouri. The retaining wall block is a Rockwood Retaining Wall eight inch taupe with Rockwood four inch straight face cap. Notice the role the retaining wall cap plays in the installation of the concrete block step. The retaining wall cap in many cases such as this one is used also to cap the concrete block step providing a very good looking and stable step cap. Concrete block steps like these are much simpler to install at right angles than when we radius them. The radius requires many more diamond blade cuts on both the concrete blocks and the cap.

These homeowners in Fenton, MO, chose Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. as their retaining wall contractor of choice over the landscape contractors who bid this hardscape project. Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. was very blessed to have the privilege to design and install this very large Rockwood eight inch split faced retaining wall with these right angled concrete block steps. Large retaining walls call for a lot of concrete block steps to get to the top. These concrete block steps were crucial to provide access from the back of the home to the bottom side of their yard. We also left a nice wide path to provide access to the homeowners to drive their rider lawn mower around to this low section of yard.

These homeowners in Fenton, Missouri, did not want a landscape contractor to do their project, so they chose Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. to design and install these Rockwood Retaining Wall 8 inch taupe/black blend retaining walls and these great looking concrete block steps. In this application notice how we not only used the retaining wall cap to cap the walls and steps but also to provide a hardscape surface for the terrace area between the retaining walls. Click on the retaining wall pictures to enlarge and see for yourself up close the craftsmanship of the men at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. If you would like a free hardscape design consultation and free estimate on your custom hardscape project in the St. Louis area call or email us today.

These homeowners in University City, Missouri chose Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. to take care of the retaining wall design, installation, and engineering. We at Agape did the design and installation and we used CMV Engineering to engineer this hardscape masterpiece. The retaining wall block was manufactured here in St. Louis by Lemay Concrete Block, a family owned business that puts out, in my opinion, one of the highest quality concrete retaining wall blocks to be found anywhere. Lemay Concrete Block also is one of the largest manufacturers of Rockwood Retaining Walls in the world. This set of concrete block steps is installed at a right angle, which gives a much defined look and provides a sharp design for those who want things sharp. Many times right angled corners like these are used on concrete block steps where the retaining  walls were all radius, thus providing a contrast to the much more subtle look of the retaining wall. Whatever your preference in the style of steps, in my opinion, nobody has better customer service, hardscape design, or installation than Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. So email or call us today for your free hardscape consultation and proposal.

These homeowners in Chesterfield, Missouri chose Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. as their hardscape contractor of choice.  They chose us over many landscape, and general contractors to take care of all the retaining wall design, engineering, and installation. We at Agape Retaining Walls installed and designed these great looking concrete block steps using the Rockwood Retaining Wall eight inch Classic Stone. The steps are cornered using a right angle off the terraced retaining walls on the one side, and built with an open side up against the house. Agape also built and designed the paver patio area the steps lead down to from the concrete driveway.

These homeowners in St. Peters, Missouri chose Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. to design and install these great looking Rockwood retaining walls with concrete block steps. The steps are right angled off each retaining wall terrace and the Rockwood retaining wall cap are used not only to cap the wall and the steps, but also as the hardscape surface for the landing below each set of steps. Our hardscape design and installation looks great in combination with the work of the landscape contractors that the homeowners brought in to landscape and sod after our hardscape work was done. I am so thankful to these homeowners for allowing us the privilege of doing this hardscape work around their home and think of each job we do as an opportunity to be a good witness in the market place, not only of what we say but also in what we do.
